Never Go Wrong with EI

In 2013 when I was doing a degree program with UoPeople USA I undertook a course in Emotional Intelligence. This is really when I began to understand the different types of intelligences such as IQ-Intellectual Intelligence, SQ-Social Intelligence and EQ-Emotional Intelligence. I realized that of all the wisdom that each type of intelligence might yield to, EQ has proved to be the most key for a real, successful and stable life.

The reason behind is that EQ is more real life based. It deals with emotions and we all know that emotions are the drivers of actions and decisions either good or bad. All decisions that people take are influenced by emotions either negative or positive. In most cases people take these decisions naturally unaware of their emotional bias.

Sometimes the decision taken may be too bad such as suicide, divorce or quitting employment. The position or outcome after the decision taken unaware of own emotional bias can have far reaching effects, like loss of life, loss of marriage, loss of source of income and thereby inventing stressful life.

Through such life the soul becomes permanently hurt and grieved because of an act done unwisely. Living in mental grief creates a soul trap where negativity grows and can lead into self-condemnation and self-defeated mindset if no steps are taken early. This is a spiritual black hole situation where the soul is finally doomed and without hope for positive life.

Do you notice that this could well be avoidable by taking wise decisions that are emotionally positive? Taking a decision with complete emotional self-awareness leads to taking a decision after some analysis of consequences.

For example, the manager has looked at you project report you submitted in the morning and while you are on lunch time playing chess with friends he arrives at the scene and openly says with a long angry face, “Matibela what kind of a report did you give me? You look confused and do not know what you are doing.” The manager speaks disgusted as he throws the report at you recklessly.

In turn, this bites you and rises your emotions as you feel you have been reduced to nothing in front of your peers. You have always thought you had value in the organization due to your expertise and professionalism. You go back to your home that day but your mind continues to build more negatives from the incident so that you no more see anything good in that company. You think you are valuable and can leave and start doing own things better, so the following day you resign and go your way.

This is not a planned decision but just an emotional option arising from negative emotions and is not good. An emotional decision like this indicates lack of self-awareness and social awareness on Mr Matibela. If he had these key emotional intelligence attributes he would first understand his personal character, that he is weak in emotional control. He would also know that the manager is another person with own emotional character, authority and capability to speak in the way he did. With this understanding Matibela would have not taken it grudgingly and this would have saved him peace of mind and kept his work until the right time.

Emotional Intelligence is just all round in that it equips you with relevant knowledge and skills to deal with all types of life situations from decision making at work to simple family love, harmony and success.

Emotionally intelligent people have the stamina and guts to analyse and ask themselves the consequence and universal advantage of taking a certain action or decision before doing it.

Although every human being is created with some degree of emotional intelligence capability, many require activation of their awareness of that faculty through learning.
